The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, will appear in court this Friday.
Elianne Andam, 15, died on Wednesday morning after allegedly being attacked after getting off a bus in Croydon, south of London. A 17-year-old teenager was detained nearby and was still in custody on Thursday morning, being questioned on suspicion of murder.

The girl was a student at the Old Palace of John Whitgift School, an independent school for girls in Croydon. Flowers and cards left at the scene since Wednesday morning paid tribute to the “much-loved” teenager, who was also described by someone who knew her as “absolutely amazing” with a “bright future” ahead.

Elianne’s aunt spoke out on Thursday morning saying that her niece “went to school and didn’t come home.” The bright student and sharp gymnast “wanted to be a lawyer”.

A forensic team was seen bagging a handwritten note as evidence at the scene. The note, which had been scribbled on an envelope, said: “I love you so much and have never met anyone with a better smile and better eyes than you have. Your [sic] special girl… princess.” It was not confirmed who wrote the note.
