Ava Moore was kayaking on Grapevine Lake, Texas, on May 25 when two suspects on a jet ski fatally struck her. A hit-and-run occurred immediately after the accident.

The passenger on the jet ski stayed at the scene while the woman driving fled along with another man, according to police. The two collided with a vehicle while fleeing the area.

Maggie Berger, spokesperson for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, identified one of the suspects on the jet ski. Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez was arrested in connection with the accident.

Ava Moore was taken to the lake shore for resuscitation, according to witness Lisa Scrabeck. “She did not suffer in agony,” Scrabeck told CBS News.

She also reported that the two women were driving the jet ski recklessly.

Ava Moore had just returned from Colorado Springs after completing her first year at the Air Force Preparatory School.

The Grapevine Police Department is investigating the car accident, while the Texas Game Wardens lead the investigation of the fatality that occurred on the lake.

“Our thoughts are with Ava’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the Game Wardens wrote in a statement.
