Earl Broomall, from Nassau County, Long Island, claimed to be a retired FBI agent to escape a fine. The elderly man ended up being arrested, according to information released by the police on Monday (16).

He was stopped on Columbia Turnpike, in Rensselaer County, shortly before 10 a.m. on May 22 for a traffic violation. The state police did not specify what the violation was.

“During the stop, Broomall displayed a police authority badge and informed the officer that he was a retired FBI agent,” the agency stated, noting that the elderly man had never worked for the FBI.

He was charged with first-degree criminal impersonation in addition to the applicable traffic violations. The elderly man is being held at the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
