A serious incident occurred at the Haneda Airport, Tokyo, around 5:50 PM, when a passenger plane of Japan Airlines, likely while attempting to land, hit a helicopter and caught fire.

Flight 516 had arrived in the Japanese capital from the city of Sapporo, located on the island of Hokkaido.
The airline confirmed that there were about 400 people on board and all have been evacuated.

The situation was captured by a camera installed by JNN at the airport. The footage shows the Japan Airlines plane with flames coming out of the aircraft’s body at 5:47 PM.

The Tokyo Fire Department confirmed that they are investigating reports of a collision between the Japan Airlines plane and a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft. The collision is believed to have occurred shortly before the fire incident.

Authorities are working to confirm reports of injuries in the incident. The Third Maritime Headquarters of the Coast Guard indicated that the Japan Airlines plane, which was in the process of landing, likely collided with a fixed-wing Coast Guard aircraft that was moving on the runway before takeoff.
