Mala’s scooter in Bengaluru was impounded after 634 fines were issued to the vehicle, with the amount for release exceeding $3,600.
The traffic police in Bengaluru seized the scooter of a female driver after 634 traffic violations, recorded since last year through the automatic camera of the Intelligent Traffic Management System, resulting in fines of over $3,600.
According to The Indian Express, the scooter belongs to Mala, who works as an employee at a cemetery. Reportedly, she was unaware of the fines being issued until the accumulated amount exceeded more than four times the price of her vehicle.
Furthermore, most of the fines were issued for violations such as not wearing a helmet or talking on the phone while riding the scooter.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Ghorpade, in an interview with the newspaper, the release depends on payment: “We have issued a notice to the owner of the vehicle, and only after paying the fine will we release the vehicle,” he explained.
