An American Airlines passenger assaulted the crew after swallowing a rosary and claiming spirits were following the plane.

A passenger identified as Delange Augustin started screaming and shaking shortly after the plane took off from Savannah, Georgia, on Monday (10). He claimed to have seen spirits on the aircraft.

According to the arrest report obtained by the *New York Times*, he swallowed a rosary to ward off what he called “disciples of Satan” who were pursuing the flight.

The flight bound for Miami was forced to return to the airport after the 31-year-old began attacking the crew members who tried to restrain him. The report states that one flight attendant received a hard kick to the chest.

While the other passengers on the American Airlines flight were evacuated, Augustin continued causing trouble. He punched another flight attendant before being subdued by fellow travelers, including his sister.

Augustin’s sister revealed that they were traveling to Haiti to “escape religious attacks of a spiritual nature.” He reportedly told her to “close her eyes and pray because Satan’s disciples had followed them onto the plane.”

American Airlines thanked its crew and passengers for their understanding.

Augustin was arrested and charged with assault and property damage, among other crimes. He was hospitalized after swallowing the rosary.
