American Airlines confirmed that all passengers were able to exit the aircraft safely. Twelve people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.


In an audio released by LiveATC.net, the pilot can be heard declaring an emergency minutes after reporting the vibrations. “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, Mayday! Fire in the engine!” he shouted.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), passengers used inflatable slides to reach the ground safely.
