A 39-year-old man in 2024 had an absurd blood alcohol level of 513 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter). The driver had almost seven times the legal limit.

Data released by the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) shows who the drivers were that consumed the most alcohol before driving.
The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
A British driver exceeded this limit by seven times after consuming nearly 13 liters of beer. According to studies from Kansas State University, levels above 450 mg/dL are “frequently associated with coma and death.”
“These numbers are simply unbelievable, in the worst possible way,” said Graham Conway, from vehicle leasing company Select Car Leasing.
“[…] Drinking enough to reach a level considered fatal, and still getting behind the wheel, is beyond any understanding,” he said, shocked by the driver’s behavior.
Conway also noted a rise in traffic fatalities involving alcohol consumption.
“Quite worryingly, the data shows that four of the five highest recorded alcohol levels occurred in the last three years,” he reported.
“This indicates that the widely publicized message that drinking and driving is dangerous and socially unacceptable still hasn’t reached some people,” he concluded with concern.
