Tesla’s stainless steel Cybertruck was involved in its first reported accident after making its debut on the road last month. The incident occurred in Palo Alto, California, after the vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla, an electric car that was dented from the impact. While the Cybertruck remained unharmed.
According to a photo released while it was parked on the side of the road, the front of the Toyota was completely destroyed. Additionally, the side airbags were deployed with the hood open and a headlight hanging down. Fortunately, the 17-year-old driver was not injured.
Safety experts are concerned about the damage the stainless steel structure and the sharp design of the Cybertruck could cause in an accident, as it has cold-rolled stainless steel body panels, along with a strong impact-absorbing capability.
“The big issue is that if they really make the vehicle’s shell too rigid by using thick stainless steel, then when people collide with it with their heads, it will cause more harm to them,” stated Adrian Lund, former president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Nevertheless, Elon Musk ignored the warnings and, instead of promoting safety, announced on social media that he was “highly confident” that the Cybertruck would be better than other trucks, both for occupants and pedestrians.
