Out of 666 passengers aboard the Seven Seas Explorer, 22 people, including two crew members, reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. The Regent Seven Seas Cruises voyage ended last Wednesday (14th).
The sick passengers were isolated by the cruise line, following the guidelines of the Vessel Sanitation Program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The ship departed from Tokyo, Japan, on April 26 with stops in the Asian country and Alaska, heading to Vancouver, according to USA Today.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises has not yet made a statement regarding the case. There are no updates on the health status of passengers and crew.
So far in 2025, there have been 17 gastrointestinal illness outbreaks on cruise ships. Most cases were caused by norovirus, a contagious virus that causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
According to the CDC, despite the increase in the number of passengers and crew affected by gastrointestinal outbreaks on ships, they represent only about 1% of all reported outbreaks.
