Moore was struck while kayaking on Lake Grapevine on the night of Sunday (25).
The young woman had graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School less than a week before her death. She was visiting her parents in Texas over Memorial Day weekend, according to Fox 4.
The alleged perpetrators of her death are Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez and Maikel Perozo, who were arrested on Tuesday (27) during a confrontation with police.
Gonzalez was driving the jet ski with another woman when she allegedly collided with Moore before fleeing the scene with Perozo in a blue Toyota Corolla, hitting two other vehicles during the escape.
Gonzalez, a Venezuelan national, was charged with manslaughter and is being held on $500,000 bail. Perozo, who drove the car, was charged with involvement in an accident causing injuries.
Governor Greg Abbott’s statement came after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton confirmed that the suspects had entered the U.S. illegally.
“My heart is broken for Ava’s family and friends, and my prayers are with them as they face this tragedy,” said Paxton.
