According to witnesses, the whale was moving erratically before it struck the vessel. They said they could see its back and fin above the water.
As the animal approached the boat, it became entangled with the hull, pushing against the vessel and ultimately throwing the woman into the water. She was not injured and was quickly rescued. The whale did not survive.
“She was really in danger. When it dove under the boats, it was a crazy experience,” Kim Mancini told the local ABC affiliate.
Minke whales can grow up to 10.7 meters (35 feet) in length and are found in various regions, particularly in the North Atlantic Ocean.
