Josep Boan Rosanes died on August 9, 2020, in a motorcycle accident in the city of Dumbria in the province of La Coruña, Spain. A driver traveling at 130 km/h in a 70 km/h zone caused the accident, which took the life of the 20-year-old motorcycle enthusiast.
Now, the mother, María Pilar Rosanes, has taken to social media to denounce a letter from the Junta Provincial de La Coruña, demanding €485.50 for “assistance and road cleaning” following her son’s accident.
The amount claimed by the Diputación de La Coruña is split in half, sharing the expense with the man who drove the car that ran over and killed Josep.
The bill corresponds to the work done by the Provincial Fire Brigade of Coruña in cleaning the road after the incident. 3 hours and 20 minutes of work that, in total, raises the amount to €977. It’s the firefighters who handle the fee collection, though the bill is sent by the Provincial Council, as mentioned on the El Mundo website.
Hours after the news broke, the Provincial Council waived the fee, stating to the same source that the bill had been issued “by mistake” and expressed their regrets. The bill will now be charged to the person responsible for the accident, they say.
This hasn’t been enough for the mother, who says, “unless I have it in writing, it doesn’t work for me. I’ve already filed a written complaint.”
