Scott LoBaido, New York artist and activist, revealed that he used flowers to block speed cameras in Staten Island. LoBaido has been detained before for other protests.
Scott LoBaido, 59, became famous after confessing to being the mysterious man who used flowers to cover speed cameras in Staten Island. The New York artist and activist appeared in court on Monday (24).
He was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and criminal tampering for disabling the devices with floral arrangements on two occasions this year, according to the Staten Island District Attorney’s Office.

“The Beautification Squad is me,” confessed LoBaido according to a criminal complaint. The flowers prevented the cameras from detecting violators, which he claims are installed to generate revenue through fines.
The New York activist’s lawyer, Mark Fonte, said at a press conference that the city was “digging into the pockets of hardworking Staten Island residents.”
“Ninety-nine percent of Staten Island residents know these speed cameras are just a means of revenue collection,” stated the lawyer.
Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon said LoBaido’s actions crossed the line from criminal activity to lawful defense.
