A ticket booth clerk from the New York subway who worked at Metro-North Railroad for 24 years has been accused of stealing $206,000 from the transit agency’s counting room.

According to an MTA report, Tom Shabani, who served 24 years with Metro-North Railroad, was charged with stealing $206,000 from the agency’s counting room between September 2024 and March 2025.

The clerk was responsible for handling cash collected from ticket vending machines. He allegedly spent the stolen funds on personal expenses.

He was arrested by MTA police on Tuesday (25) and taken to the White Plains City Court in New York. He was released the following day.

“Metro-North does not tolerate any betrayal of responsibility when it comes to safeguarding public funds for the people of New York,” said Metro-North’s Vice President of Operations, Justin Vonashek.

Shabani has been suspended, and an investigation into the case is ongoing. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 16.
