A New Jersey woman has been charged with drunk driving and killing a 73-year-old man from Boston, USA. This is the latest in a series of crimes committed by the woman.
Lauren Mullins, 32, was charged with driving under the influence and hitting Daniel O’Neil, 73, on March 21. The repeat offender had committed her last crime in January 2025.
O’Neil was riding a scooter near the MIT campus in Massachusetts when he was struck by Mullins’ SUV. The elderly man was thrown into a police car.
The victim was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries and died two days after the accident, according to WCVB.
The driver, who had recently taken the bar exam, was allegedly intoxicated. She was arrested at the scene on a $65,000 bond.
“Officers were unable to conduct a standardized field sobriety test due to the defendant’s belligerent nature and behavior,” Massachusetts prosecutors said during Mullins’ hearing.
The driver was charged with operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, as well as negligent driving. On January 31, she was arrested in Hoboken after being caught arguing with police while visibly intoxicated.
Her record of traffic violations dates back to 2014. “This seems like something that could have been completely avoided if people had given her the help she needed in her life,” said Meredith, O’Neil’s niece, to WBZ.
