The airline Ryanair has requested the European Union to limit passengers to consuming only two alcoholic beverages at airports.

In a statement made on Monday (13), Ryanair requested the European Union to impose a limit of two alcoholic beverages per passenger at European airports. The measure aims to increase safety for everyone during flights.

“During flight delays, passengers excessively consume alcohol at airports with no purchase or consumption limits,” said the airline’s spokesperson.

Airports would use passengers’ boarding passes to enforce the limit.

This follows a case where Ryanair sued a drunk passenger who caused disruptions and delays on a flight from Dublin, Ireland, to Lanzarote, Spain.

Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, expressed support for the alcohol consumption limit in August 2024. He told The Daily Telegraph that drunken behavior was responsible for the increase in violence at airports.

In Ireland, it is illegal to be drunk on an airplane. The offense can result in a fine of up to $850 and up to four months in prison.
