A woman who survived a plane crash that killed 12 people in Honduras recalled the last message she sent to her boyfriend. She reported that the aircraft had issues before takeoff.

Liliana Estrada, 25, was one of five people who survived the crash of a Jetstream 32 aircraft from Lanhsa Airlines. The aircraft crashed into the sea off the coast of Honduras on March 18. Twelve people died in the accident.

Liliana reported that the aircraft already had problems when it started to take off. She said she texted her boyfriend after the plane experienced a malfunction.

“The plane started to skid. I sent the message about a minute and a half after that happened,” she recalled. The aircraft departed from Juan Manuel Galvez Airport in Roatán, Honduras.

“The flight was supposed to depart at 5:40 p.m., and we were told there would be a 25-minute delay, which was not true; the delay was much longer.” Liliana said the airline did not provide any explanation for the delay.

“Before we took off, when the plane was skidding, I sent a message to my boyfriend saying I loved him and that something was happening. And that was the last thing I was able to tell him,” said the passenger.

The plane crashed two minutes after takeoff. The crash occurred 100 meters from the runway and in the sea. Liliana suffered a pelvic fracture, ankle injuries, and abdominal wounds.

Honduras’ Civil Aviation Agency confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
