Surveillance cameras recorded the moment two young women were run over and killed by a driver speeding on Wednesday (9) on an avenue in the city of São Caetano do Sul, Brazil.
The young women, Isabela Priel Regis and Isabelli Helena de Lima Costa, were run over while crossing the pedestrian lane on an avenue in São Caetano do Sul. The driver was speeding before the collision.
The images were captured by the surveillance cameras of the Emergency Management Center (CGE).
The video shows the two crossing the pedestrian lane with the red light for pedestrians. The driver, Brendo dos Santos Sampaio, 26, threw the young women over 50 meters with his Honda Civic. They died at the scene.
Brendo’s defense claims that he crossed the street with a green light for cars, but the CGE footage shows that the light was yellow. He admitted to the police that he was slightly above the speed limit of 60 km/h.
Witnesses said it seemed like the driver was participating in an illegal race, claiming they saw the Honda Civic speeding at high velocity. The car was completely destroyed after the impact.
The case was registered as manslaughter with eventual intent, when one assumes the risk.
The two young women were “inseparable friends,” said Isabelli’s mother, Claudilene Helena de Lima. They were coming back from a wine cellar after celebrating that one of them would start a new job the following week.
