A United Airlines flight attendant is being criticized in a viral Reddit post for refusing to help an elderly woman with a disability with her cane. The airline employee allegedly tried to remove the passenger from the flight.
A first-class passenger wrote that he felt bad for the lady. “It was heartbreaking to see someone who just needed a little help being treated that way,” he wrote in the post.
The passenger needed help placing her bag and cane in the overhead compartment because there was no space under the seat. He goes on to say that the flight attendant was “aggressive” and yelled at the woman.
“Absolutely not, I can’t do that because of union rules, and if I get hurt, ma’am,” the flight attendant allegedly said, according to the Reddit post.
Despite the outburst, the woman remained calm and continued to request the flight attendant’s help, who eventually agreed to help her reluctantly.
Even after the ordeal, the United Airlines flight attendant accused the passenger of being disrespectful and called security to remove her.
Many users responded shocked by the situation. “What a ridiculous thing to be stubborn about. I’ve seen attendants completely rearrange overhead bins. Strange,” wrote one user.
United Airlines has not yet commented on the incident.
