The fire affected an entire unit of the Wildberries warehouse, causing significant damage to the stored goods.
A warehouse employee told the Russian news agency RT that the fire started on the seventh floor, where goods are stored. The building’s fire alarm went off around 5 a.m., followed by an unpleasant odor, but it was quickly turned off, said the employee.
In the aftermath of the evacuation, concerned local residents and friends of warehouse employees are helping to remove people from the fire scene. Many workers were seen fleeing to the streets in summer uniforms, and are being warmed in the cars of volunteers.
