A single-engine Diamond DA-40 crashed on Interstate 26 near the Asheville Regional Airport around 8:15 p.m. with two people on board.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the plane hit power lines crossing the I-26, and a wing hit a trailer. The plane was engulfed in flames.

A truck was damaged by the fire, but the driver was not injured, the highway patrol stated.

The two individuals in the plane were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions on Friday morning while Duke Power workers repaired the power lines crossing the highway, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
