An Alaska Airlines flight went through a dramatic moment shortly after takeoff when part of its structure was torn off due to severe depressurization. A video published on TikTok shows the passengers onboard, who remained calm despite the alarming situation. During the incident, various objects, including phones, were sucked out of the plane.
Fortunately, the affected area of the plane was unoccupied, preventing injuries to passengers. There were no reports of injuries in this concerning incident.
The aircraft involved in the incident, a Boeing 737-9 MAX with registration N704AL, departed from Portland (PDX) bound for Ontario, California (ONT) at 17:06 local time.
N704AL (MSN 67501) was delivered new to Alaska by Boeing on October 31, 2023. It entered commercial service on November 11, 2023, and has accumulated 145 flights since then (including the incident flight).
AS1282 was the aircraft’s third flight of the day and its second takeoff. It had flown from San Diego to New York overnight and then to Portland earlier the same day.
