The video captures Arkansas police officers being taken to the closet by a man in a jumpsuit who then enters the small room and retrieves a young girl after moving some items to get to a secret door.
On the day of the rescue, officers from the Tontitown Police Department went to the home of a 40-year-old man to execute a search warrant, Detective Keith Lindley told USA TODAY.
According to the incident report, the officers were there to assist the Department of Human Services in the custody of a 5-year-old girl.
The girl emerged unharmed from the incident and was taken into the care of the Department of Human Services. The following day, Jon Thompson, 40, of Tontitown, Arkansas, was arrested and faces a series of criminal charges.
The man claimed a judge had granted him custody of the child, refused to open the door, and told police that the five-year-old was not at the residence.
Eventually, Thompson admitted the child was in the house and led police to the closet, from which officers said they heard noises. The suspect moved some boxes to reveal a board that had been nailed to the wall.
The man now faces charges of custodial interference, first-degree false imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a minor, and possession of body armor and drug paraphernalia, according to The Washington County Jail Intake.
