Videos posted on social media showcase various places in Hong Kong flooded from the heaviest rain ever recorded in the territory.
Record intensity rains hit Hong Kong in the early hours of Friday (7). According to the territory’s meteorological agency, it’s the most water since 1884, when rain records began. Local press reports that at least two people have died.

The heavy rain occurred a few days after the supertyphoon Saola struck China, which is about 1,778 km from Hong Kong.
According to the meteorological agency, a violent storm warning has been in effect since 11:05 pm on Thursday (7th Sep) local time (10:05 am in Brasília). Before midnight, 158.1 millimeters of water fell per hour. The World Meteorological Organization defines heavy rainfall as those starting from 50 mm/h.
