Passenger Melani Gonzalez Wharton shared details about the incident on her Facebook profile.
“We were landing and it was a very rough, aggressive landing at high speed, which caused one of the front tires to blow out and catch fire,” she said.
According to the Puerto Rican newspaper *El Nuevo Día*, the Frontier Airlines aircraft suffered a mechanical issue that caused one of the landing gear wheels to break.

Wharton was returning from a trip with her husband and their two children, aged 3 and 6. “For a few minutes, I thought it was the end of our story here on Earth,” she wrote.
The passenger recorded the moment when the plane was sparking from the engine after some of the parts had been ingested. You can hear children crying and screaming in the video.
According to the website FlightAware, the Airbus A321 circled the airport four times before attempting to land again.
Frontier Airlines has not yet commented on the incident.
