WKMG station obtained an audio that shows the moment when a husband fights for the life of his wife who was killed by an alligator. The two fell from a canoe at Lake Kissimmee, Florida.

Cynthia Dieckmann, from Davenport, Florida, was canoeing with her husband, Dave Dieckmann, on Tuesday (6) when they hit an alligator in the shallow part of the lake.

The couple was knocked into the water after the 3.3-meter reptile began thrashing violently. The canoe overturned, and Cynthia fell on top of the animal.

The alligator attacked the woman, while her husband tried desperately to save her. WKMG station obtained an audio recording of the struggle.

“The alligator grabbed her out of the canoe. [Her husband] tried to fight the alligator. We are at the last place where he saw her. He left the paddle here where he last saw her,” said an official.

Despite the husband’s effort to save his wife, emergency services found the victim’s body floating in the water, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Authorities captured several alligators to investigate their stomach contents to determine which one was responsible for the attack.

Instagram users went to Cynthia’s social media to mourn her death. In the photo, she was hugging her husband and smiling.

“So sad. My thoughts and prayers to your daughters and granddaughter. I’ve always been terrified of them when I lived there,” wrote one user.
